How to File a Complaint with the NDPC

If an organisation has mishandled your personal data — by sharing it without permission, losing it in a breach, or refusing to honour a valid data request — you can file a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

  1. Document the violation. Write down what happened, when it happened, and any evidence you have (screenshots, emails, or notifications).
  2. Contact the organisation first. The NDPC requires that you first attempt to resolve the matter directly. Send a formal complaint to their DPO or customer service team and keep a record.
  3. File with the NDPC if unresolved. If the organisation does not respond within 21 days, or if their response is unsatisfactory, file a formal complaint at ndpc.gov.ng.
  4. The NDPC will investigate. The Commission has the power to investigate, impose fines, and order remedial action. Complaints are free to file.
